The party arrived at Burgomaster Baron Vargas Vallakovich's mansion, where they were offered access to his renowned library in exchange for investigating supernatural phenomena plaguing the manor—purple lights, cold drafts, and ghostly apparitions that had driven staff members away. While investigating, the party split up: Torinn and Xavath interviewed the cook Tereska, who described eerie encounters in the attic and mentioned that Victor, the Burgomaster's son, spent days isolated there and had been depressed since a strange illness struck the Wachter girl two months prior. Meanwhile, Jynx discovered a shocking revelation in the library—a genealogical tome revealed that Ireena Strazni had died eighteen years ago at age four, her parents dying by suicide shortly after, raising profound questions about the Ireena traveling with them. The party eventually met Victor in his attic workshop, where he kept his reanimated skeletal cat Mierka and practiced magic in secret using a spellbook bearing Khazan's sigil—the same symbol from the mysterious ring.

Victor confessed he had been creating the "ghost" phenomena using minor magic to undermine his father's reputation, fearing severe punishment if his magical practices were discovered. The party negotiated a deal: they would stage an exorcism to satisfy Baron Vargas, and in return, Victor shared crucial information from Khazan's spellbook about the Amber Temple, a tower on Lake Baratok with powerful enchantments, and the Staff of Khazan that could restore creatures to life. Victor agreed that if the party retrieved the staff for him to fully revive Mierka, they could have the spellbook, and he directed them to find Zoldar, a hunter who knew the western lands. After successfully deceiving Baron Vargas with their staged exorcism, the party escorted Ireena back to the Blue Water Inn, where she reacted with disgust upon learning Izek had commissioned a doll in her likeness. The party then visited the Vistani encampment to share their findings with Kasimir, who expressed shock that the legendary Amber Temple and Silver Dragon might be real, warning that the lands west of Vallaki were increasingly dangerous and that Khazan had supposedly been killed centuries ago.
