Mozzarella Balls
Tired of Cheese Sticks?
Give these easy mozzarella balls a try. Crispy Fried Mozzarella Balls with Homemade Marinara.
We used both Bocconcini and Cilliegine mozzarella for this recipe.
Fry in very hot 350F oil to get the best results.
Recipe:
For the Mozzarella:
Ingredients:
6 each- Bocconcini mozzarella
12 each- Cilliegine mozzarella
1 1/2 cup- all purpose flour
1 TBSP- kosher salt (to season the flour)
4 each- eggs, beaten
1 1/2 cup- panko breadcrumbs
1/2 cup- Italian breadcrumbs
1 TBSP- garlic powder
1 TBSP- dried basil
1 tsp- kosher salt (to season the breadcrumbs)
Grated parmesan cheese
chopped parsley for garnish
Oil for frying
Method:
In a small mixing bowl add 1 TBSP salt to the flour, mix, set aside.
In a separate mixing bowl, beat 4 whole eggs until smooth.
In a medium mixing bowl, add Panko breadcrumbs, Italian breadcrumbs, garlic powder, dried basil and salt, stir together.
Set a dredging station- flour, egg, breadcrumbs.
Coat each mozzarella ball in the flour, then the egg, then the breadcrumbs. Repeat to the egg and back to the breadcrumbs.
Once all of your balls are breaded, place in the freezer for about 1 hour.
Heat oil to 350F and drop the balls in batches, cooking only until they are browned, so not leave too long in the oil or the cheese will begin to ooze out.
Place balls on a drying sheet to drain.
Prepare balls on a layer of mozzarella. Garnish with parmesan cheese and fresh chopped parsley.

For the Marinara:
Ingredients:
1 each- 24oz can- San Marzano whole peeled tomatoes
1 TBSP- tomato paste
2 each- garlic cloves
1 TBSP- kosher salt
1 TBSP- sugar
3/4 cup- tight packed fresh basil
2 TBSP- olive oil
Method:
Combine all Ingredients in a food processor and pulse until smooth but slightly chunky.
