This is a great video for teachers, especially language teachers, to make the classes more fun using a free tool - Google Sites. It shows you how to use student profiles in language teaching. It is a very flexible idea as could be used in one lesson or it could be a project for many lessons. We are going to look into Google Sites and how students can create their own profiles. These can be managed by the students where they can add information about themselves as well as pictures, videos or audio.
Any student can create a profile, in the language they are study, or even a group profile on Google Sites which is shown in the first part of this video. You will learn how to create a student profile page and how to add the content like text, pictures, videos and audio. These covers an opening page with introduction and other pages with context about the language they are learning, their interests, hobbies, their history etc. This is a great way to practice the language and at the same time great way to learn about how to produce a website in Google Sites. What is more, when using Google Sites you can imbed a video from YouTube for example a song if you want to make a page about your favourite music or singer. If you want to add pictures to the profile you can do it by URL and if you want to record yourself and add audio you can use the Vocaroo. You can also preview your work before you save it to make sure you are happy with the page.
In the last part of my video I explained how to share your work with other students, particularly if you joint a group profile, or with the teacher.
Google Sites is a free tool mainly used to create websites but it can be used by the teachers and students in language learning. It allows the students to create their own profiles in the language they are learning so it is a great way to practice the language but also they can learn how to make a website. It can make the learning process more fun and engaging as students can individually or in groups write information about their lives, hobbies, the language they are learning or for example about their favourite music, films etc. Very flexible idea, the students can imbed pictures, YouTube videos or record themselves and imbed the audio.
Great free tool for the language teachers if they want to make the classes more engaging and get the students to practice the language in more interesting way.
