Event Details:
📅 Date: Saturday, January 10, 2026
🕐 Time: 1:45 PM
📍 Meeting Point: West Columbia Riverwalk Park and Amphitheater
109 Alexander Rd, West Columbia, SC 29169
We will walk together to the South Carolina State House (1100 Gervais St, Columbia, SC 29208).
This is a beautiful opportunity to walk together, to share in this mission of peace, and to be part of something truly meaningful. Whether you can walk the full distance or just part of the way, your presence will add to the spirit of peace and unity that this journey represents.
We look forward to seeing you there and walking together for peace.
With warmest invitation and deep gratitude,
The Walk for Peace Team
May you and all beings be well, happy and at peace. 🙏💛
On Sunday, the group will travel up Hwy 21 through Blythewood, and will arrive at the Ridgeway Recreation Center approximately 4 pm. After a short period, they will receive visitors from 6 pm - 9 pm, where citizens will have an opportunity to speak to the monks. After the visits, Fairfield County is hosting them for a night of rest at the Ridgeway Recreation Center, before they continue their journey the next morning.
So, how should you approach the monks? A representative of the group says there are a few guidelines to follow:
Dress modestly and comfortably.
Maintain a calm, respectful presence.
Follow the monks’ pace and guidance and always stay behind them.
Photograph "with mindfulness."
If you wish to greet the monks, a gentle bow with hands together is a traditional and respectful gesture, though not required. Handshakes are usually avoided unless a monk initiates.
If offerings (such as water or simple food) are being made, please follow the guidance of the organizers. Monks observe specific practices around receiving offerings, so coordination helps ensure everything is done properly.
People of all faiths, backgrounds, and beliefs are warmly welcome. The most important “etiquette” is simply to come with a sincere intention of peace, compassion, and unity.
