First and foremost, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the 100 participants in the Flatland category and the 44 participants in the slope category. The vibrant exchange among pilots and the buzz within clubs and associations this year have been incredible. It's truly remarkable that we already have 144 participants from 14 nations, and the community continues to grow.
I, Stephan Eich, feel deeply honored that so many have responded to the call to fly in the Free Glide League. The idea came to me last summer, and I have personally funded the complete programming and implementation on RCMODELSPOT.COM out of my own pocket, without any expectation of future compensation. My goal was to create a free and widely accessible platform for pure online comparative flying in model gliding for everyone in the international community.
Today, inspired by a suggestion from Jeffrey in Pennsylvania, USA, I've decided to provide an English-language overview of the rules. I'm delighted to fulfill this request and will briefly explain how easy it is to participate in the Free Glide League.

Participation Is Free and Easy
To begin with, it's important to note that the Free Glide League is completely free for anyone who wishes to join. All you need is the log file (IGC format) from approved loggers. These include devices from RC Electronics—such as the Eagle series, Swift, old and new Raven series, and the Albatross App (usage: FREE of Charge for FREE GLIDE LEAGUE) (available at https://www.rc-electronics.eu/eagle-2/ )—and from SM-Modellbau, specifically the GPS-Logger 2 and 3 (available at https://www.sm-modellbau.de/GPS-Logge... ).

Understanding the Start Rules

For those using RC Electronics loggers, you can use them directly without any additional setup. If you're using the SM GPS-Logger 2 or 3, you'll need to configure the device to generate an IGC file appropriately. We've established that the flight starts after an acceleration exceeding 20 km/h and concludes with the landing.

Uploading Your Flight Data
Once you've completed your flight, the generated IGC files can be uploaded to your account on where they will be evaluated.

Creating a Valid Task
So, how do you create a valid task?
• Start Window: You begin within a vertical start window that ranges from 5 meters to 400 meters above ground level (AGL).
• Detecting the Start: The flight starts when the log file records a consistent altitude loss over a 10-second period. There should be no altitude gain during this time. Essentially, the automatic script needs to recognize a clear altitude decrease for 10 seconds.
• Motor Restrictions: Your motor must be off during this period, which is verified using the Engine Noise Level (ENL) measurement. ENL sensors must not exceed a value of 300 (with 999 indicating "motor on") for more than 8 seconds during the flight, especially if there's simultaneous altitude gain; otherwise, it will be considered as "motor on."

Sensor Placement and Integrity
Please ensure that the ENL sensor is placed in a quiet area of the fuselage, away from noisy servos or leaky canopies. Attempts to dampen the sensor with foam or similar materials will be detected by our software and could invalidate your flight.
