A Travelogue on a weekend tour to Futiyari Dam, a new offbeat destination in Purulia district of West Bengal..
Futiyari - the vast reservoir and dam, is located approx. 284 km from Kolkata and 28 km from Purulia Town. The shoreline of the water body is dotted with small hillocks like Tilaboni, Sindurpur and Panjonia Hills. Away from the hustle and bustle of city life, one can breath the fresh air amid beautiful nature at Futiyari. The bluish water surrounded by greenery is a treat to the eyes. The water lilies enhance the beauty of the Futiyari lake.
Parakeets, Myana, Drongo, along with water resident birds like cormorants, egrets, Asian openbills can be seen in and around the the vast reservoir of Futiyari. In winter a number of migratory birds can be seen at Futiyari dam also. One can also enjoy abundant "Polash" Flower in the month of March/April.

How to go:
Futiyari Dam can be reached from Purulia Town by car very easily. It takes less than one hour. The car fare is 800-1000 depending upon the season.
From Kolkata one can drive directly to Futiyari also which will take around 5 to 6 hrs.

Accommodation:
Futiyari is one of the newest additions in the tourist map of Purulia. At present there are 3 numbers accommodations on the bank of the dam, which have come up very recently. The best of these is Futiary Retreat. This accommodation is however is costly. Cottage Tarff 3500 for 2 persons incl. Breakfast.
The other two are accommodations are Futiyari Eco Resort and Palash Baha Resort.
