“Behind the Smile” follows a group of high-school friends who spend their days laughing, teasing, and surviving school life together. Among them is Jasmine (Abao) — quiet, pressured, and carrying the heavy burden of a toxic home. Though she tries to hide it, her friends occasionally notice her distant stares, forced smiles, and quiet sadness. Still, no one truly understands what she battles every day: harsh words from her mother, fear of disappointing others, and the pressure to appear strong.

The story begins when Mica, one of Jasmine’s closest friends, writes an unfinished letter meant to comfort her. But before she can send it, Mica takes her own life — a tragedy rooted in her own painful and abusive family situation, something she hid behind her cheerful personality.

The film rewinds through memories of joy, laughter, and simple moments with friends, showing how both girls were silently fighting their own battles. Jasmine, believing she was the only one struggling, realizes too late that Mica was hurting even more deeply — behind her bright smile, energetic presence, and constant support.

Through scenes of school life, friendship, and raw moments of emotional breakdown, the film reveals an important truth:
