Working as a park ranger at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park means dealing with heat, lava flows, and tourists who don’t always respect the land. Most people come to see the volcano, take photos, and leave with a small piece of lava rock as a souvenir.
That’s where the problems start.
Local legends warn visitors never to take anything from the volcano. They call it Pele’s Curse. Most tourists laugh and assume it’s just a myth meant to scare people.
But over the years, I’ve seen too many strange things happen to the ones who ignore the warning. People come back days later shaking, returning the rocks they took. Some claim they’ve been followed by terrible luck. Others say they saw something in the lava fields at night.
