On 26 June 1963, US President John Fitzgerald Kennedy arrived at Dublin Airport to begin a four-day visit to the Republic of Ireland. Welcomed off Air Force One by Irish President Éamon de Valera and Taoiseach Seán Lemass, Kennedy made an address while still on the runway.
