A drone attack on one of Iraqi Kurdistan’s largest gas facilities, the Khor Mor field, has forced a halt to operations and sparked major electricity blackouts across the region, officials said Wednesday. The strike targeted storage tanks at the site, igniting a fire and injuring several workers.
According to a joint statement from the Kurdistan Natural Resources and Electricity ministries, gas flows to all power stations in the region were immediately cut off. Kurdish electricity ministry spokesperson Omed Ahmed warned that power generation could drop by roughly 3,000 megawatts, affecting cities including Erbil and Sulaymaniyah.
