CINCINNATI (Angela Ingram) -- A family gets a devastating diagnosis, their baby is in a fight for her life.
7-month-old Iyana Davis has an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Life as Issac Davis and Beatrice Thomas knew it is forever changed.
Normally, Issac would be at the barber shop cutting hair. Instead the couple's days and nights are spent at Children's Hospital.
It's like my life is the hospital now, said Issac Davis, Iyana s father. I'm really not thinking outside of the hospital because I just want my daughter to get well.
The couple's 7-month-old daughter, Iyana, was diagnosed last month with a form of cancer called ATRT.
They told us it was a very aggressive cancer, it was rare, said Issac. They didn't know too much about it really. They're checking a lot of hospitals around just to see how to treat it.
The disease caused tumors in Iyana's brain.
Issac and Beatrice have been at the baby's bedside watching her battle the disease and recover from the surgery.
It's emotionally draining. They haven't been able to hold their baby girl in a month.
I just want her to be better. I want this to not have happened, said Beatrice Thomas, Iyana s mother. But it's here and I want my daughter to beat this.
The couple who never would have imagined cancer touching their home is now devoted to bringing awareness to ATRT and helping their baby win her battle.
I would never think I would be taking care of a child or have a child with cancer, said Beatrice. I hear about it all the time. I've paid attention to it but it's never hit me that this can happen.
I want my baby to survive this, said Beatrice. I want her to beat this and I just don't want to give up on her.
Doctors at the hospital tell Iyana's parents that children under age three usually have a 10 percent chance of survival.
But other parents of kids battling the same form of cancer have reached out to Issac and Beatrice on Iyana's Facebook page.
Some of their children have fought it, and beat it, giving the family more hope.
