Here we talk about the IR spectrum of the aldehyde, a carbonyl compound.
The most prominent peak in the IR spectra of aldehyde is usually a very strong, sharp band at 1730 cm^-1, corresponding to the carbonyl group's stretching vibration (C=O).
The second peak is observed for the C-H bond of the alkyl group (where the carbon atom is sp3 hybridized) at 3000 to 2850 cm^-1.
Another carbon atom in the C-H bond (that belongs to the carbonyl group) is sp2 hybridized, and the third C-H stretching is observed at 2830-2700 per centimeter. This is the unique absorption in aldehydes, that helps us differentiate aldehydes from ketones and other compounds using IR Spectroscopy.
