I spent my nights staring at ceilings,
Counting cracks like they were years
Every dream felt too heavy to carry,
Every hope dressed up as fear
I learned how to smile in silence,
How to bleed without a sound
I was alive, but barely living,
Just a ghost still hanging around

I thought the weight was who I was
I thought the chains were part of love

Not just survive the days
I want to feel the sun
On my face, not fade away
I want to live free
Even if it breaks me open wide
If this is all the time I get
I won’t spend it scared of life

There were mornings I hated waking,
Mad I made it through the night
Every breath felt like a question,
Every step a losing fight
I carried names I never chose,
And guilt that wasn’t mine
I bent myself to fit their cages,
Till I forgot I was alive
