My Time at Sandrock – Overview
What is it?
My Time at Sandrock is a life simulation and crafting RPG developed by Pathea Games. It’s a sequel to My Time at Portia, set in a post-apocalyptic desert town called Sandrock, about 300 years after a world-ending event known as the Day of Calamity.
You play as a Builder who arrives in Sandrock to help restore the town by crafting machines, gathering resources, upgrading your workshop, and interacting with the locals.
Gameplay Features
Crafting & Building: Central to the game. You collect resources to build machines, tools, structures, and workshop upgrades.
Exploration: Venture into the desert, ruins, and caves to mine materials, uncover relics, and fight enemies.
Combat: Real-time hack-and-slash combat against monsters and bandits in dungeons and wild zones.
Farming: Grow crops (even in the desert) using water and special soil systems.
Relationships: Befriend, romance, and even marry NPCs. You can attend events, give gifts, and take part in town life.
Customization: Customize your character, workshop layout, house decor, and more.
Story & Quests: Participate in the town’s development, help NPCs with side quests, and advance the main storyline.
What’s New Compared to Portia
Better graphics and animations.
Smoother gameplay with improved UI and crafting systems.
More diverse and dynamic characters.
Desert setting brings a new survival element (managing water, sandstorms, etc.).
Machines can overheat or break if not maintained.
Co-op multiplayer mode (currently in beta or limited release).
Pros
Relaxing gameplay loop: gather → build → explore → interact.
Strong world-building and atmosphere.
Deep crafting system with hundreds of items.
Plenty of content: side quests, dungeons, seasonal festivals, and NPC stories.
Improved quality of life over Portia.
Cons
Can feel grindy in the early game.
Some technical issues on consoles, especially Switch (performance drops, bugs).
Romance and character writing may feel bland to some players.
Time management can feel stressful if you're not used to daily task cycles.
Is It Worth It?
Yes, if you enjoy cozy games, crafting, farming, and light RPG elements. It’s especially recommended for fans of:
Stardew Valley
My Time at Portia
Harvest Moon / Story of Seasons
Animal Crossing (but more goal-driven and task-based)
It offers a satisfying long-term gameplay loop with lots of content and charm, despite a few rough edges.
