Many Long-eared microbats (Nyctophilus sp.) roost in the old farm shed during the day. A stealthy Carpet Python (Morelia spilota) came along and frightened the bats away.

Three species of Australian Long-eared Nyctophilus bats live in my area in the north east of NSW. (N. bifax, N. geoffroyi and N. gouldi) It is difficult to identify the individual species from photos and video. Long-eared microbats use echolocation to detect prey and usually catch insects while flying but these bats also have the ability to snatch insects from foliage or the ground. An unusual adaption of these bats is their ability to take flight after landing on the ground.
If you have any comments, or if you are able to give me some clues as to what the actual species of bat in my video might be, please let me know in the comments section below.
