Toelichting van de componist.
World Concerto is een muzikale reis door de wereld van muziekstijlen en verschillende stemmingen. Maar dat is slechts één kant van het verhaal. Dit stuk is ook een andere soort reis: een reflectie van hoe de componist de wereld, de aarde, ervaart. Voor de vorm is gekozen voor een klassiek concert, omdat er maar weinig concerten bestaan voor bastrombone en orkest (of harmonieorkest).

Het eerste deel begint heel bescheiden. Het is intiem en weerspiegelt de wereld zoals deze wordt ontdekt bij de geboorte. De wereld is enorm, al wordt dat besef pas later duidelijk. Dit gevoel is in eerste instantie kortstondig.

Daarna opent de wereld zich volledig en toont haar grootsheid. Dit roept een "wow"-gevoel op, dat uitnodigt om de wereld te verkennen. Het tweede deel heeft een lyrische stemming en is een ode aan de schoonheid van de aarde en de natuur.

Het derde deel richt zich op de mensheid. De marsritmes symboliseren de levensreis van de mens en de manier waarop deze de aarde bewonen. Thema’s uit het eerste en tweede deel worden in dit deel samengebracht, zodat het stuk kan eindigen in een "grote wens" van de componist:

Een toekomst waarin de mensheid in harmonie leeft met het leven, de aarde, de natuur en met elkaar.

Note from the Composer
World Concerto is a musical journey through the world of music styles and different moods. But that is only one side of the story. This piece is also another kind of journey: a reflection of how the composer experiences the world, the earth. The classical concerto form was chosen, as there are few concertos written for bass trombone and orchestra (or wind band).

The first movement begins very modestly. It is intimate and reflects the world as it is discovered at birth. The world is vast, though this realization only becomes clear later. This feeling is initially fleeting.

Afterward, the world fully opens up and reveals its grandeur. This evokes a "wow" feeling, encouraging one to explore the world. The second movement has a lyrical mood and is an ode to the beauty of the earth and nature.

The third movement focuses on humanity. The march rhythms symbolize the journey of life and the way humans inhabit the earth. Themes from the first and second movements are brought together in this section, allowing the piece to end with a "great wish" from the composer:

A future in which humanity lives in harmony with life, the earth, nature, and one another.
