Some of the ready meals sold in UK supermarkets are closer to chemical constructions than home cooking. They are engineered to look and taste like food. But when you break down what is actually inside them, that word becomes questionable. We analysed twelve of the most common ready meals sold across the UK. More than half were loaded with extreme levels of salt. One in five triggered three red warning labels at once. And in some cases, the ‘chicken’ barely qualifies as chicken at all. Once you see what is inside the cheapest meals on the shelf, the entire ready meal aisle starts to look different.
