I got to test some new gear!

I borrowed some Armstrong from Nick at underground surf, unfortunately I put my neck out and only ended up using it for one session despite having the gear for 3 days...

I started on Armstrong gear when I learned to foil by winging, I started on the hs1850 and proceeded to do about 5000km as I was hooked. I then started on a gear journey that never really stopped. I went from using Armstrong to Axis gear via some uses of lift foils and sab foils. I settled on Axis as it had the best selection for me and the best masts in the market which I believe they still do. They have the sort of gear you need to start the sup dw journy. A foil setup isn't worth anything if its not on a good mast. Armstrong has since made some good gains with their mast which was well needed.

I didn't really get along with the feel of this foil unfortunately... obviously just a first impression, and its sometimes a bit tough learning new foils during a sup downwinder! It felt a bit draggy compared to my latest foils but the speeds I was doing didn't really reflect this, they look pretty good on camera. I’ll need to get on to some of the higher performance foils for dw... perhaps the 1080 or 980ha

I think what I struggled with at the start was the rake of the mast... it has a 1 degree of negative rake which I found hard to get off the water, I took about 5 tries to get up and foiling at the start of the run which really bummed me out as I was fresh and eager and had a long day ahead of me filled with excellent wind. I eventually pulled through and got to feel the foil. It was stable and never got out of control, I could put it in any drop and never felt it out of control or even seem to speed up.

I like the lightness of the setup, I think that is one of the standouts.

Hopefully ill get to try some more at some stage, I'm keen to try the aluminum too to see how it stands up to the Axis aluminium.
