Odisha in Crisis: Over 2 Weeks of Complete Halt in Government Construction Projects!
It's been more than two weeks since construction work on ALL government projects across Odisha has come to a grinding halt. Nearly 80,000 contractors (with reports indicating up to 90,000 involved) from the All Odisha Contractors’ Association and other bodies are on an indefinite strike, demanding fair tender policies, reversal of the January 2026 circular that scrapped the 14.99% capping system, and viable bidding conditions.
This massive standoff has paralyzed critical infrastructure work — roads, bridges, drinking water supply schemes, electrical projects, civil constructions — and is severely impacting the lives and livelihoods of lakhs of daily wage workers, labourers, engineers, and families dependent on these projects. Delays are mounting, quality concerns are rising, and the economic ripple effects are being felt statewide.Yet, the Odisha government continues to sit idly by, showing apparent callousness toward this urgent crisis affecting public development and thousands of citizens.
