Jordan Peterson on dominance hierarchies and lobsters, and what those old brain mechanisms have to do with you, depression and the main reason why people dont like to be put down.
Summary:
If you are on the bottom of a dominance hierarchy or if someone tries to lower your position, it has effects on your brain serotonin system: You are more likely to experience negative emotions than positive ones. The higher up you are (which happens by being among the most competent people in any given doamin) your serotonin levels rise and you are more likely to experience positive emotions.
In lobsters (and humans to an extent) your posture signifies your serotonin levels, so stand upright and dont let anyone push you around :)
