Learning English Podcast - Memorial Day, New Rocket

Описание: On Today's podcast, Ashley Thompson and Dan Novak host the show. Dan tells listeners what they are going to hear. May 27th is Memorial Day in the United States.

First, Caty Weaver and Mario Ritter, Jr. have a special holiday program about Memorial Day. Memorial Day is a national holiday observed in the United States on the last Monday in May. It is a day when Americans honor the men and women who have died fighting in America’s wars. For most Americans, it also marks the unofficial start of summer. It is a popular weekend for vacationing. Caty and Mario provide a tour of the famous memorials around Washington, D.C.

After that, Bryan Lynn has the Science Report. A private company is working with the American space agency NASA to develop a new rocket that could greatly reduce space travel times. The engine for such a rocket will be designed to possibly reduce the travel time between Earth and Mars from years to months and greatly improve rocket efficiency. The development is still early in the process.

Next, Bryan and Dan discuss how far the research on the new rocket engine has developed. Bryan notes that computer models are being used at this time. It remains unclear if the materials are available to build the rocket.

Then, Ashley has a promotional message for Let's Learn English with Anna, a VOA Learning English program for children.

Finally, Andrew Smith and Jill Robbins talk about how to agreeably disagree on the Lesson of the Day. The two use a disagreement in the VOA Learning English program Let's Learn English, to show how people can disagree about everyday matters. The give tips on communicating in English.
