Another must when in Paris is a trip to the Montmarte area of the city in the 18th arrondissement. The nearest metro stop is ‘Abesses’ on line 12, then after exiting the station with its wonderful ‘Hector Guimard’ designed entrance, head north to the bohemian ‘Place du Terte’ with its abundance of cafes and artists who’ll be eager to create a portrait of you for a reasonable price. It’s then only a short walk through the bustling cobbled streets to Sacré-Cœur, the famous Roman Catholic church perched on top of the Montmarte hill, where you’ll get breath-taking views across Paris.3 miles (4.5km) to the west of Sacré-Cœur is another iconic Parisian landmark, the Arc de Triomphe. If you don’t fancy the hour long walk, head to Anvers metro station on line 2, where you can catch a train directly to the Arc du Triomphe. For €13 (free for up to 18 years) you can buy a ticket to go inside the Arc du Triomphe as well as on top for some panoramic views. Afterwards, no trip to Paris would be complete without a stroll along the Champs-Élysées, one of the most iconic avenues in the world, with its theatres, cafes, and luxury shops.
