【Pls look at the top comment first】If an album can be described as a perfection, I hope today my recommendation will become every melodic rock fan's perfect expectation. For loyal hard/melodic rock fans, this CD cover is familiar, featuring a praying lady. It is never too exaggerated to say that this album entitled "Even The Saints Are Sinners (2013)" is one of the best releases in the past ten years, which is from famous rock musician Joey Summer, a real epic record to own.
Nine years have gone by since this album was released in 2013. In the past decade, I think Joey Summer's music works never let anyone down and are always the big surprises for fans. No matter what language he sang, Portuguese or English, his works bless for ears, featuring the best arrangements and the profound connotation, which mean a lot to the music world as the precious spiritual wealth.
For whoever knows Joey Summer and hears his music works for the first time, it's never too late to know this great, talented and versatile Brazilian musician, who is an excellent singer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer as an indispensable figure on the rock music scene in the 21st century.
Hard/melodic rock from Brazil actually came out to the world during almost the same periods of time as those from USA and UK, but in the 1980s and 1990s, there were not many Brazilian artists who were well-known by the outside world. It was not until the noughties onwards that lots of Brazilian rock bands and solo artists stared to win the reputations and Joey Summer is a good example.
Joey Summer's official debut was released in 2009, which was entitled "NASCER" and created in Portuguese. Actually, his music career started much earlier which can be dated back to 1990s in his twenties and maybe even earlier, because there was an album in 1998, entitled "O Tempo Vai Mostrar" from Joey Summer, which I heard before. But one thing can be sure that his first English album "Written On The Horizon" was released in 2010.
Since Joey Summer started to create English songs, he has worked together with more overseas musicians from Europe, such as Fredrik Bergh (Street Talk, Blood bound), Göran Edman (Malmsteen, Glory, Street Talk), Michael Mueller (Jaded Heart), Kee Marcello (Europe) and Michael Bormann. "Written On The Horizon" was released by a German label mainly in Germany.
This album "Even The Saints Are Sinners" featured a mighty recording team including the famous European musicians Peter Östros (Swedish guitarist from Jaded Heart) and English guitarist David Mark Pearce. To be frank, Joey Summer's music sounds truly in vein of European style from arrangements. The bright and splendid keys, and the polished sounds remaind people of lots of Nordic gems.
Whoever have heard Joey Summer's albums especially the English albums can find his works are ingenious. He created the very splendid and fantastic vibe from the sounds. In this album, he strengthened the keys, making the sounds from keys as powerful as the guitar works.
Though most of his albums were released in the second decades of the 21st century, his music works don't sound much close to modern aor, which carry more features close to 1980s and 1990s European melodic hard rock and aor sounds. Close your eyes and just listen, all these brilliant tunes maybe come from Sweden, actually they are the top-class sounds from Brazil.
From this album, "One Love Is Waiting", "Luckly One" and "No Matter Where You Go" carry the greatest charm from keyboards as if there is a magic music journey, which take people to a fantastic world. All the keyboards parts were played by Joey Summer on perfect arrangements. Combined with hard rock and aor, this album includes the melodious and flaming tunes with hooks one after another.
Joey Summer can perfectly deal with his voice on both hard rock and aor, so we can hear his powerful side and gentle side on vocals. In this song "Hearts In Flames", it features his comparatively the gentle side on vocals, but it carry the real passion when the choruses as the highlights come into ears. Also, the song features English guitarist David Mark Pearce on solo. Joey Summer is also an excellent guitarist, who played the most solo parts for the album tracks. As an original record, "Even The Saints Are Sinners" is perfect on Brazilian music journey though it carries no Latin sounds.
Joey Summer is a pious Christian, whose music used to reflect his opinion about value, but he didn't make his music limited into the religious themes. He also sang in French project AOR on vocals. Apart from his role as an all-around musician, he is also a graphic artist, specializing on visual art design. On his facebook, his name is "Joey Polycarpo". Trust me his works both on music creation and art design will leave us deep impression.
