Monitoring bearing loads and lifetime is essential yet challenging. Conventional methods rely on strain gauges or accelerometers mounted on the drivetrain housing, an approach that offers limited insight.
This demo introduces an innovative solution that Flanders Make has developed using a single optical fibre.
Multiple sensing points are placed directly on the bearing surface, on both the stationary and rotating parts. These optical signals are fully immune to electromagnetic interference and capture detailed strain information across the bearing. Advanced algorithms then process the data to estimate loads, detect early signs of damage, and predict remaining useful lifetime.
