STORYLINE:
The Taiwanese Army is in the second day of live fire drills Tuesday to test the ability to fend off enemy ships coming toward shore.

The Army Air Defense Group launched dual-mounted Stinger missiles and Avenger surface-to-air missiles on the beach in Pingtung.

The dual-mounted Stinger missile launcher provides protection for air defense forces. It uses infrared and ultraviolet light to search and identify targets, while its modular design allows soldiers to deploy it quickly.

Defense ministry spokesperson Sun Li-fang said any irrational unilateral behavior that undermines regional security and stability should not be encouraged but should be condemned.

Taiwan’s Avenger missile system, the vehicle-mounted launcher equipped with eight Stinger missiles, has a higher ammunition load than the dual-mounted launcher.

Tuesday’s drill is to test the army’s ability to react quickly and defend simultaneous Chinese military attacks from the sea.
