I bought a SDR USB dongle on eBay for well under $10, with free postage to the USA from China:

It's a generic Asian-spec digital TV Tuner that contains a RTL2832U+R820T SDR chipset. It came with a cheesy little stick antenna, but it has an antenna connector onboard, so an upgrade is easy.
Just a little playing around here with the original antenna.
Interesting that it can tune in a 2.4GHz WiFi signal, to some degree, well beyond the 24MHz-1800MHz rated tuning range.
The full 22MHz bandwidth of the WiFi signal is not shown, of course, due to the 2-3MHz maximum bandwidth of the chipset, even when in the recommeneded frequency range. But the signals are present, so this little thing has some use well beyond its rated range!
