In This Video: Why do some interactions trigger such strong emotional reactions, even when you’re trying to stay calm and detached? If you find yourself overreacting, replaying conversations in your mind, feeling emotionally stirred up after a comment, or struggling to stay unbothered when someone pushes a button, there may be something deeper happening beneath the surface.
I explain why emotional triggers occur and how they are often connected to core beliefs formed earlier in life. When a present-day situation resembles something unresolved from the past, it can activate a belief about yourself such as “I’m not respected,” “I’m not important,” or “I don’t belong.” When that belief gets triggered, a protective part of you reacts — sometimes through anger, people-pleasing, withdrawal, or over-explaining.
Learning to detach from emotionally charged situations is an important step, but detachment alone doesn’t always resolve the deeper pattern. Real change happens when you begin identifying the belief that was activated and understanding the internal system that formed around it — the emotions, reactions, and protective behaviors that developed over time.
I walk through what a trigger really is, why certain situations affect you more than others, and how you can begin exploring the belief at the root of your reaction. When you understand what’s being activated internally, you can start responding from a more grounded place rather than reacting automatically.
