A fire broke out aboard the MV Delphine, the world’s largest short-sea RoRo vessel, while docked in the port of Zeebrugge, Belgium. The ship was carrying around 190 vehicles — including 60 electric vehicles — when the blaze erupted on the third deck.
In this video, I break down what we know so far about the incident, the firefighting challenges unique to RoRo vessels, and why electric vehicle fires create a whole new set of risks. We’ll also look at how current shipping standards fall short, what went wrong in previous incidents like Newark and Miami, and why this isn’t just about EVs — it’s about how we train, prepare, and protect crews on land and at sea.
