Tales of Destiny 2 - Magnadeus [Harold Solo/No Damage/Unknown Mode]

Finally! This took quite some time as I wanted to show a lot of different things during this battle. Let's go right into the fun stuff.

Magnadeus starts the fight with Last Vanish (an ultimate boss that starts with a MA... Mmm I wonder which game copied that lol). You can cancel it simply by hitting him. Easier said than done, you have literally no time for that. Your character must be very close (hence why I kept party members) and depending on who you use, only specific actions will reach Magnadeus on time. Harold can either instant run and throw a dagger (Up basic) or instant run, jump and throw a dagger (Neutral basic). In either case the timing is incredibly tricky but you can continue this into a combo.

After this small combo, you can abuse his AI to cast a first Crazy Comet. For some reason, Magnadeus will try to walk away and won't attack. I think his AI was programmed like this. After all, if you get hit by Last Vanish, he won't attack for a short time. Maybe the AI keeps this behaviour even when he fails the attack?

The goal of this fight is to use the Crazy Comet extentions to remove his godly HP while using basic combos to recover TP much faster. Unfortunately, this spell is very long to cast and there aren't many opportunities to do so. You'll see later how I abuse his pattern to get some.

During the first 50% HP, he can still cast Indignation Judgment. You can dodge the initial hit with Kyoueisou (you still need the right timing) and Spell Cancel will let you run away from the rest of the MA.

Once you remove 50% of his HP (around 2 Princesses of Mermaid for me), the real stuff starts and god it's damn annoying (fun?). Magnadeus will get a gigantic Spirit Blaster buff. His SB gauge will increase over time at a fantastic speed. Just look how fast he reaches SB mode! Most melee fighters can overcome this issue if they build their Critical stat. Critical hits removes SB points from enemies so you can combo much longer. However, for Harold (which is built to cast spells) this is another story. First, the SB bonus is so huge that there isn't enough time to cast a full Princess of Mermaid. If you start casting to late, Magnadeus will tech out between extentions and punish you. The only way to reach Princess of Mermaid is to cast Crazy Comet while Magnadeus is still in SB mode. Once again, easier said than done... I know there is a way to glitch Magnadeus into using no attack at all during SB mode but I really didn't want to do that as it removes a lot of the fun from this fight (and I don't actually remember how to do it, so whatever...).

Magnadeus has many Fields of Effects, all of them are dangerous except one where he actually heals you (he has pity on your characters lol). The most dangerous one though is the field that stops time. It's. Freaking. Annoying.
The issue is that unlike some other characters, Harold doesn't have any way to dodge attacks when stopped... at least that's what I thought until I actually tried lol. Harold can dodge Snake Bite with an extremely precise dodge. She must run way, jump and instantly throw a dagger (Up or Side basic). Magnadeus must stop her at the peak of her jump. Yes, it's impractical. Yes, it looks cool. Yes, I HAD to show it.

I ran into something I never saw until this fight, i-frames during Execution. At 1:30, I negated all damage from Beast Roar and I don't know why. I tried this setup multiple times and I was only able to reproduce it with Execution. Is it because I was hitting Magnadeus at the same time? Is it a side-effect of Artes that can chain into Summons? I have no idea. And yes, I had to show it lol.
