What is DLPL treatment?
Distal Laser Proximal Ligation (DLPL) is a novel sphincter‐saving procedure for the treatment of Complex Anal Fistula.
The primary closure of the track is achieved using laser energy emitted by a radial fiber connected to a Diode laser. The energy causes shrinkage of the tissue around the radial fiber with the aim being to close the track. The aim is to gently remove the complex fistula tract without damaging the sphincter.

Understanding Fistula-in-ano:
An anal fistula ( #bhagandar / Fistula in ano ) is a small channel that develops between the end of the bowel and the skin around the anus. It frequently is the result of a previous or current anal abscess. The fistula has a tract with two openings - An internal opening into the rectum or anal canal and an external opening through the skin of the buttocks.
It is an abnormal hollow tract or cavity that is lined with granulation tissue and that connects a primary opening inside the anal canal to a secondary opening in the perianal skin; secondary tracts may be multiple and can extend from the same primary opening.
