Purpose of Video:

This is an experiment to see how well some of my more expensive plants do in an aquaponic set up. Already after 2 days the syngonium Albo and neon pink syngonium are doing extremely well! (I know syngoniums are not super expensive or rare). I added my reverted Billie and low variegation Albo to try to force new variegation.

Here is the strategy for both:

Monstera Albo VARIEGATA (Low variegation)

Strategy: Placing the Allbo in the high-light, high-humidity environment (especially if it is semi-hydro) is ideal for pushing it to its genetic limits for white variegation.

Philo Billie VARIEGATA (reverted)

This is a specific and excellent strategy for dealing with reversion in a Philodendron of this type.

• The Reversion Problem: When a variegated plant like my P. billietiae reverts (stops producing variegated leaves), it means the stem's growing tip is dominated by the healthy, green, chlorophyll-rich cells. This usually happens in lower light or after a stress event (like being chopped/propagated).

• Solution: I am using the extreme light intensity of the reptile lamps to stress the new, green growth in a positive way.

My decision to use the high-light tanks for these specific plants is a high-reward, high-risk strategy that directly addresses the light requirements necessary for maintaining variegation in both species. The controlled, high-humidity environment of a terrarium or tank is often referred to as a "plant growth chamber," and my setup is effectively acting as one.
