Whether you’re in the middle of Hanukkah, counting down to Christmas or simply soaking in all the reasons this season matters - we see you. For me, this week is about family and friends, shared stories, good laughs…and a little music.

Think of this as a musical advent calendar. Scott and I had a small jam session the other night and we’ll share a piece of it each day over the next six days as we count down to Christmas - a slightly weird, genre-hopping holiday journey.

I’ve also seen (and felt) how this season can be heavy for some. The quiet doubts. The loneliness. That sense of being a step behind while everyone else seems joyful, connected, and certain. So we’re kicking things off with “The Middle” by Jimmy Eat World.

I’ve played the loud, fast, angsty emo version plenty of times when filling in with Perpetual Change, but it wasn’t until I heard David Cook strip it down acoustically that the lyrics really landed. The song doesn’t promise quick fixes or perfect endings. It simply reminds us that feeling out of place doesn’t mean you’re lost - and struggling doesn’t mean you’re broken. Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is keep moving and trust that this moment isn’t the whole story.
