Once an abandoned limestone quarry, Khao Ngu Stone Park has been reclaimed by nature and transformed into one of Thailand’s most unexpectedly dramatic green spaces. Sharp karst peaks rise straight out of a quiet lake, their reflections broken only by paddleboats, dragonflies, and the occasional turtle slipping through the reeds.

A suspension bridge and cliffside boardwalk wind through the park, past cattails known locally as toop ruesi—“hermit’s incense”—and along ravines that feel far larger than their true scale. Though compact enough to explore in an afternoon, Khao Ngu delivers an outsized sense of space and atmosphere.
As evening settles in, wildlife comes to the fore: shorebirds on stone outcrops, turtles gliding beneath mirrored water, and—on this visit—an entirely unexpected encounter with vividly colored macaws training above the lake at sunset.
This short film captures a quiet Sunday evening at Khao Ngu Stone Park, when the crowds thin, the light softens, and the park reveals its stranger, wilder side.
