What are Fractional Exponents? (and why we use them) | Rational Exponents, Exponent Rules

Описание: What are fractional exponents? We are all familiar with exponents that are integers, both positive and negative, but what does it mean to have a fraction as an exponent? These are sometimes called rational exponents, and we go over their meaning, their uses, and how to rewrite fractional exponents as roots in today's video math lesson!

The short story is that if we have a number to a fractional exponent, say 125^(2/3), the denominator of the fraction tells us a root to take, and the numerator is left as an exponent. So 125^(2/3) is equal to the third root of 125, all squared. The third root of 125 is 5, and 5 squared is 25, so 125^(2/3) = 25. More details in the full video lesson!
