Описание: The Retrone is a river that flows in the province of Vicenza. Its source is located in Sovizzo at the confluence of the Valdiezza, Onte and Mezzarolo streams; it continues crossing Creazzo, then the territory of Altavilla Vicentina and after 12 km it flows into the Bacchiglione, near the area of ​​the former Rossi cotton mill.

In the S. Agostino/Ferrovieri district of Vicenza along the left bank of the Retrone, a large river park of 40,000 m² has been created, called precisely "Parco Retrone". Various events are organized annually in this equipped green area, including Ferrock and Festambiente Vicenza.

The park on the Retrone river has long been rooted in the history of the Railwaymen district. It was born and established in a different way than usual: in the city of Vicenza it represents the first experience of construction and participatory management of an equipped public park.

In 1997 the Municipal Administration established and partially financed the creation of the Park; subsequently almost all the construction work was carried out by organized voluntary groups of the neighbourhood, schools, scout and sports groups, represented by Legambiente which still has custody of the park.

The Park is home to educational projects both of the nearby Dino Carta school (Istituto Comprensivo n.8), and of some high schools in the city.

During the first decade of the 2000s, Legambiente, with the support of the Centro Servizi per il Volontariato di Vicenza, developed some projects for the environmental redevelopment of the park, including 4 photovoltaic lampposts located along the park, benches and picnic tables also designed for disabled people.

The park extends along the Retrone river and occupies an area of ​​40,000 m², placing it in second place by order of extension among the city's green areas. Maestro Giorgio Vezzaro, an inhabitant of the Ferrovieri district, has dedicated a photographic exhibition on the Retrone river to Festambiente.[2]

The park is full of trees and flowering bushes, but what characterizes it is the course of the Retrone river which runs along the entire length of the park. Inside you can go for walks and bicycle rides enjoying the view of the herons and the hills beyond the river. In the park there are also some spaces equipped for volleyball, five-a-side football and a storage and docking point for canoes, set up by the Masters of the Canoe Club of Vicenza who have been offering free canoeing courses during Festambiente since the first edition in 2002.

Since 2013, the Retrone Park has been connected to the adjacent park of Villa Bedin Aldighieri via a cycle-pedestrian footbridge over the river itself.
