►War in Kryta
'War in Kryta' is the first beyond questline, taking place after the events of the base campaigns and the add-on Eye of the North. To begin playing this questline either Prophecies or Eye of the North must be completed. Talk to Murro in Lion's Arch to get a meta quest which leads you through the events of this questline.
You will face plenty of interesting foes: Peacekeepers have been introduced, the White Mantle and the few remaining Mursaat learned plenty of new skills from all campaigns. Every encounter is unique due to almost randomly composed enemy parties.
►General advice for this quest
This quest features a bog-standard advancement to your assassination target that doesn't need further mention but ends in an unusual combat in the centre of the temple of tolerance for which you need to prepare.
Unlimited Reinforcements
More difficult than the actual boss fight is the battle right in front of his position. You have to defeat the melee bosses Cairn the Grave and Justiciar Kasandra aswell as their accompanying white mantle units. Both are highly resistant melee bosses that can be dangerous if they attack your backline. Simultaneously you'll be attacked by reinforcements that approach your position from both sides. Their supply is unlimited, so you need to deal with them while also getting closer to the boss.
Luckily there's a pattern to their attacks and they don't spawn next to you, but make their way to your position, which means you can see the incoming threat on your compass. After beating a couple of approaching foes there's a brief period during which no reinforcements approach. Use that time to lure Justiciar Kasandra's group away from your quest target and defeat her safely. Now pull back a bit and wait for the next few reinforcements; fight them off, and during the next brief time of no incoming attacks, go for Koril.
The boss fight
Your assassination target is Koril the Malignant, a necromancer boss with high survivability, featuring additional skills for self-preservation and the nasty trait to summon a bunch of additional foes in front of him whenever dropping below a certain health point threshold. Not only do these extra spawns pose a significant threat and make a retreat more difficult, the boss can also fully recover his health points by sacrificing his allies, making it particularly difficult to beat him. There are two approaches to complete this quest: Either bring so much burst damage and short-term survivability that you can crush him and his extra spawns in one go, or play it safely by wearing the boss out in multiple assaults. To do this, you need to clear his extra spawns whenever possible, as they aren't unlimited, and pull back in time before the next reinforcements arrive and sandwich you. Eventually, after all extra spawns near Koril are defeated, you'll face only the boss and can finally beat him.
Build recommendations
You can prepare for either quick assaults and retreats or maximized stationary combat power. A team with high caster burst damage allows to take down foes and retreat before the next reinforcements arrive. A team with spirits and minions is stronger in combat, but loses its minions during a retreat. Both styles have their merits for this quest; I reckon going with spirits and minions is a bit easier in general.
►Builds used in this video
Builds designed for the fast and risky kill on Koril. The soul taker player build allows for great damage compression thanks to the offensive support with strength of honour and dark aura. A mesmer with the focus on shutdown stabilizes the team against caster foes while a large force of minions quickly clears whichever foe slips past the player. Until you reach Koril you'll have fought against a large amount of foes and your heroes should have accumulated a minion force of respectable size. These minions not only deal plenty of damage, they also serve as a major distraction for the extra spawns around Koril, so you can solely focus on killing him with the supported player's burst damage.
