A Special Session on the Global Situation and the Prospects for Peace in Ukraine
The Kyiv Security Forum is convening a special session on the most urgent questions of war, peace, and international security.
Russia’s war against Ukraine began in 2014 with the illegal occupation of Crimea and parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. By attacking Ukraine, Vladimir Putin launched not only a war against a sovereign state, but a challenge to the international order itself. Russia’s claim to global relevance has become inseparable from war - an implicit admission of the political, economic, and strategic failures of Putin’s regime at home.
Twelve years on, critical questions remain. Can Russia be deterred and compelled to retreat? Is a just and sustainable peace achievable in 2026 amid rising global uncertainty? Can Euro-Atlantic unity endure? And ultimately, will the rule of force prevail or a just international order based on law and responsibility?
