US President Joe Biden called America's evacuation from Afghanistan an “extraordinary success” in remarks delivered hours after the Taliban declared victory from the capital Kabul's airport. Speaking at the White House on August 31, 2021, Biden also defended his decision to end 20 years of US occupation of the country, saying, "I was not going to extend this forever war."
