Amal al Rabayah and her family gathered among the rubble of their house in Rafah to break their fast during Ramadan.
But food is scarce in war-torn Gaza.
According to the U.N., half of Gaza’s 2.3 million population is facing “catastrophic hunger” due to insufficient aid.
Al Rabayah, like hundreds of thousands displaced Palestinians due to the war, is struggling to observe traditions of the Muslim holy month.
The war in Gaza started following Hamas’ surprise Oct. 7 attack in southern Israel that killed about 1,200 people and saw about 250 taken hostage.
The Israeli offensive has killed over 31,000 people, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which says about two-thirds of the dead are women and children.
After a strike, al Rabayah, her husband and one of their five children decided to remain in the damaged house while sending others to a shelter.
“I find comfort here in my home despite the bombing, fear, destruction, and lack of safety,” al Rabayah said.
