Описание: Navy bay

• The remains of another unconfirmed warship from the war of 1812.
• This is a shallow site in Navy Bay, no more then 10 feet from shore. The ribs are still evident with a little bit of the super structure of the wreck and under some rocks. The rocks were used to fill in the parking lot and playing fields at RMC (Royal Military College).
The location of this dive site is in Navy Bay and the easiest entrance into the water is from the parking lot at RMC.
• There is a Commissionaire at the entrance of the RMC which you need to show ID. Unless it is on lock down, you are allowed access to the dive site. Tourists also visit RMC to see the historical military college.
• Driving in through the front gate, you drive straight until the stop sign, turn left at the stop sign. As you drive into the college, Navy bay is on the left hand side. It is interesting to note that the soccer fields and parking lot used to be a mast pond but has been filled in.
• You will make your way to the floating docks and enter into the water is over the rocks.
• Swimming under the black floating docks you will come to the remains of the wreck.
• If you swim to the back of the wreck and back towards the floating docks you will come across a little of the super structure.
• Swimming further out from shore you will come to a scooped-out section. It is said the clay that was scooped out, was harvested here to make clay bottles.
• The bay has been used for centuries and is full of debris.
• This site has been surveyed but no definite conclusion to the identity of the wreck was confirmed.
• In many old charts of the area, there was a ship that was docked in the same location and used for storage.
• This wreck is about 100 ft long. With its proximity to docks and how shallow the location is, the wreck is in considerably good condition.
• The remains of this wreck that are still visible are the ribbing of the ship.
• Being behind piers in the bay this site generally has no current and does not usually have big waves to worry about.
• This side of the bay does have a lot of silt which is probably from when it was filled in.
• In the summer sea cadets do use the area for sailing and the bay is an anchorage. The sea cadets maintain the black floating docks as part of their sailing program and are most likely unaware of the wreck.
• It is good to dive with a float and to remember that multiple people use the water.

Another area of Navy Bay is the munitions dock.
• This site is another underwater dock that was used at Fort Henry for supplies.
• It is important to remember this dock would not have been under water until the St Lawrence Seaway was made in 1950.
• There is a lot of debris in the area and is interesting to see the construction of docks from over 200 years ago.
• To access this site, it is recommended to use the same entry and exit point as the shipwreck by the floating black docks.
• Looking out, from the docks, this site is straight across the bay. You will come to a deeper part of almost 20 ft where clay was harvested from the bottom.
• Swimming across you want to aim for the tower. You will reach large timber in front of the tower. The dock is only a couple feet off the bottom. The inside of the dock is rock with the outside being timber.
• If you swim just north of the fort close to shore, you will come across old blue canteens from 1880s that were most likely dumped here as way of disposing of the equipment as the British left Canada.
• In a little bit of deeper water, about 15 ft, you will come across large mounds of silverware. It is interesting to see how the utensils are all stuck together.
• These are not made of silver but stainless steal. This side of the bay does not have as much silt as the other side.
• If you follow the shoreline, you will also come to the previous location of the CFB marina. Here you can find newer debris in this area.
• The depth of this part of the bay is shallow. There is not a lot left here, but you can spend a fair amount of time swimming around.
• The Fort Henry side of the bay is more susceptible to wind. It is easy to see the spot where boats anchor. At dusk and dawn there is usually some bigger fish in this area.
• From the name of the dock this is a site where munition and supplies were brought to the fort.
