Normally London Overground services only go to Battersea Park station just once a day......as a Parliamentary service to maintain the legal fiction of a good service and avoid line closure formalities.
To minimise attractiveness to the passengers, trains going to Battersea Park station normally travel at times when they are least likely to be convenient!
Battersea Park station is also used as diversion destination in case trains routed via South London cannot reach their normal terminus - which is Clapham Junction station.
On Sunday 18th December 2016 track works meant that all trains had to be diverted to Battersea Park.
Until the start of the London Overground service to Clapham Junction platforms 1 and 2 were used by South London Line trains between London Victoria and London Bridge via here, Denmark Hill & South Bermondsey.
Apart from Wandsworth Road - Battersea Park the route is still served by other trains - albeit in several segments. So passengers must change trains, perhaps more than once.
Battersea Park is rarely shown on official publicity material (maps, etc) in case passengers start asking for a meaningful service, even if only at peak hours.
Passengers travelling between Wandsworth Road and Battersea Park must either catch the daily Parliamentary train or travel via (and change trains at) Clapham Junction.
