Simulation of the growth and compression of monodisperse spheres using the LIGGGHTS software.
Particles are scaled with radius until a packing fraction of 0.4 is obtained and then compressed equally in all directions (compression speed might need to be reduced in order to make the final state independent of starting conditions). Particles are colored according to the force magnitude on that particle.
Final average number of contacts per grain is approximately 4 corresponding with the isostatic state of a packing with friction.
