Craving Filipino street food but stuck at home? Don't worry! In this blog post, we'll share our experience of cooking popular Filipino street foods right in our kitchen. Get ready to treat your taste buds to some delicious lumpia, kwek-kwek, calamari, and turon. Let's dive into our flavorful adventure!
Lumpia Shanghai:
Our first dish was Lumpia Shanghai, a Filipino favorite made with pork, carrots, garlic, onions, and some secret ingredients wrapped in a thin, crispy wrapper. We made our lumpia extra special by adding thick layers of pork and seasoning. Served with a spicy chili dip or vinegar, this dish was a crunchy and flavorful delight.
Kwek-Kwek:
Next, we attempted to make kwek-kwek, a popular street food made from deep-fried battered quail eggs. Unfortunately, we couldn't find quail eggs in our local supermarket, so we substituted them with regular eggs. The result? A delicious, crispy, and satisfying treat that pairs perfectly with a homemade spicy sauce or vinegar.
Calamari:
Our next dish was calamari, made with cleaned squid seasoned with salt and pepper before frying. The end result was crunchy, flavorful, and took on the flavor of whatever dip we used. We especially enjoyed dipping it in vinegar with cucumber for a refreshing twist.
Turon:
Lastly, we made turon, a sweet Filipino snack made from bananas and jackfruit wrapped in a spring roll wrapper and deep-fried. We used regular brown sugar instead of the traditional washed brown sugar due to its unavailability. The result was a warm, comforting, and delicious treat perfect for satisfying our sweet tooth.
Conclusion:
Cooking Filipino street foods at home was a fun and flavorful adventure. While it took some time and effort, the end result was worth it. We successfully recreated the taste and experience of eating our favorite street foods without having to leave the comfort of our home. So next time you're craving some Filipino street food, why not try making it at home? Happy cooking!
