For over three decades, Splash Mountain was one of the most beloved rides at Disney World. Opening in October 1992 in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom, the attraction was Disney’s East Coast version of the original Splash Mountain that debuted at Disneyland in 1989 and later at Tokyo Disneyland. Designed by Walt Disney Imagineering, the ride combined classic Disney storytelling with advanced Audio-Animatronics, detailed show scenes, and a thrilling 52-foot drop that became one of the most photographed moments in Disney park history.

The attraction was inspired by characters and music from Disney’s 1946 film Song of the South, following Brer Rabbit’s adventure through the Briar Patch. Featuring more than 100 animatronic figures and songs such as “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah” and “How Do You Do?”, Splash Mountain became a rite of passage for generations of Disney guests visiting Magic Kingdom.

In June 2020, The Walt Disney Company announced that Splash Mountain would be reimagined with a new story. After closing permanently in January 2023 at Walt Disney World, the attraction underwent a full thematic transformation. The ride system, flume layout, and iconic drop structure remained intact, but the storyline, characters, music, scenery, and Audio-Animatronics were completely redesigned.

In 2024, the attraction reopened as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, inspired by Disney’s 2009 animated film The Princess and the Frog. The new story follows Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen, Louis the alligator, Mama Odie, and friends on a musical journey through the Louisiana bayou as they prepare for a Mardi Gras celebration. The updated attraction features brand-new state-of-the-art Audio-Animatronics, original music, and immersive bayou theming while retaining the classic log flume ride experience.
