The consequences of taking the wrong line on a large and sticky weir (this was difficult to avoid as the river pushed you towards the RH side of the weir).
The weir in question is the 2nd one after Backbarrow Falls on the River Leven in Cumbria-not the huge grade 5 thing almost always portaged-but the one below this at the outlet of the hydro plant. It is quite retentive in all levels, but the day we paddled it (5/1/13, 1.26m on the Newby Bridge gauge) it seemed to have a bit more grab to it and held people as well as boats.
This video has been posted not to scare people, but rather to see what lessons can be learned and provide information to those looking to run the river. It is not a definite portage, but as always, if in doubt, get out and have a look. The safest line is hard left (from above the weir).
