In our new series, The Kingdom Way, we’re looking at the Beatitudes in Matthew 5. We often think "blessed" means happy circumstances, but the Greek word Jesus used is Makarios—being fully satisfied because God indwells us, regardless of what's happening around us.
In Matthew 5:1-12 Jesus is laying out a process of salvation and sanctification. It starts at the bottom—recognizing we are "poor in spirit" and spiritually bankrupt—and ends with us being part of His "rescue team" as peacemakers.
