Surely this is JS Bach's Badinerie re-written for flute duet and strings? Well, not quite. It is that, but with Johann Sebastian's melodic motifs emptied out and replaced with motifs adapted from a Johann Christian Bach sinfonia. And that meant re-writing some of the chords and much of the counterpoint. But it's all re-worked within JS's very firm footprint.
Think of it as a musical game between the aged Bach père and his teenage son. The title is Badinerie avec papa which, as any speaker of Franglais will know, means "Muckin' About with Dad".
There's no doubt old JS would have condemned my counterpoint but, let's face it, time has moved on. Anyway, I think mine sounds better than his.
