An aging Yamaha 9.9hp 4 stroke outboard motor was not starting and as we know that probably means some sort of fuel blockage problem. That is always the first place to look before getting more seriously into things.
What was interesting as I started to diagnose the electrics in this engine I saw there was no spark and then looking into the engine computer and back from there, that the stator was open circuit. Its job is to supply electricity to the engine computer that generates the spark to fire the pistons. I did some research and found that the stator should have a resistance of 396 ohms... It is a simple device - a coil of wires that's being "passed" by a magnet on the flywheel and generates an AC current of sorts.
Using a multi-meter I confirmed that it was open circuit - so no current was going to get thru there.
As this is one of two 9.9 Yamaha engines on my catamaran of the time, I was able to get the stator of the other one and after some gear pulling able to test the alternate.
The video also shows off the range of wires and best I can understand the role of each one.
The result was suprising
