Michael Larson earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from MIT and spent 33 years in academia as a professor at Tulane University and as the University of Colorado. During that time he was engaged in research and teaching in mechanics and materials. Prior to that Michael served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force performing structural and damage tolerance analyses. Under the sponsorship of the Missile Defense Agency, the National Science Foundation, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the Air Force Materials Laboratory, he has tackled a number of projects related to the fracture and failure of structures and to novel optical methods in applied mechanics.
