Alvarez, a formerly incarcerated fashion enthusiast, discussed how clothing fosters identity, self-expression, and resistance within carceral environments. This conversation, inspired by HRM’s "No Bodies: Clothing as Disruptor," highlights the mission of 914United, which supports youth impacted by the justice system through mentorship, skills development, and community resources. Alvarez, who co-curated the 2022 exhibition "Clothing Inside: Addressing American Prisons," will share insights on how clothing can challenge oppressive prison structures.
